No Democracy in the United States of American

There will be no real Democracy in the united States Until These issues are addressed:

THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE

For the second time in the past 16 years, a candidate who received less popular votes has been handed the presidency. In 2000, Al Gore received almost 600,000 more votes than George W. Bush, yet Bush received more electoral votes and was handed the presidency.

In 2016, Hillary Clinton received over one millions more votes than Donald Trump, yet Trump received more Electoral votes and was was handed the presidency.

The”Will of the People” is violated when a candidate who received less popular votes is awarded the Presidency.

There will be no real democracy in the United States until the Electoral College is ended and presidents are elected by popular vote

RIGGING ELECTIONS THROUGH GERRYMANGERING

Most Americans have never heard of Gerrymandering and are unaware that Republicans has rigged elections in their favor for years to come through gerrymandering.

Republicans injected $30 million, much of it from dark money contributions into state races in 2010, often targeting vulnerable blue state Democrats in races that wouldn’t otherwise draw a lot of national funding.  The plan was called REDMAP (full story here).

gerrymandering3

When the midterm elections were done, Republicans had gained unilateral control of 11 state legislatures, upping their total to 25. Between then and the 2012 elections, GOP lawmakers in these states had largely undisputed power over redrawing congressional districts. This helped allow Republicans to maintain control of the House, even though Democrats received over 1 million more votes.

The Republican State Leadership Committee issued a memo stating “Controlling the redistricting process in these states would have the greatest impact on determining how both state legislative and congressional district boundaries would be drawn. Drawing new district lines in states with the most redistricting activity presented the opportunity to solidify conservative policymaking at the state level and maintain a Republican stronghold in the U.S. House of Representatives for the next decade.”

Through Gerrymandering, Republicans has made it almost impossible to be removed from office in some districts. Since they feel safe from being removed from office, they have no motivation to compromise. They are pursuing radical right wing agendas such as cutting assistance to the poor, cutting planned parenthood funding and passing anti-aborting “War on Women” legislation when the majority of Americans do not support these actions.

Politicians picking their voters is unconstitutional. Gerrymandering is an assault on Democracy.

VOTER OBSTRUCTION

voter-suppression3

Republicans have passed Anti-Democratic voter obstruction laws reducing the days people can vote and laws requiring photo ID’s in states they control like Texas, Ohio, Virginia, Florida and Pennsylvania.

In Ohio they are trying to pass legislation to decrease the number of Voting Machines to make it difficult on people living in larger urban areas which has minorities who typically vote for Democrats.

Republicans cover story on this issue is to decrease “voter fraud”. The fact is, voter fraud has been documented to be practically non- existent. Forbes Magazine calls Voter Fraud “A Massive Anti-Democratic Deception

Paul Weyrich, “father” of the right-wing movement and co-founder of the Heritage Foundation, Moral Majority and various other groups states in this video that he doesn’t want everyone to vote. He still gives weekly strategy sessions to Republicans.

Former FL GOP chair says ‘right-wing crazies’ want to suppress black vote

Former Florida Republican Party Chair Jim Greer testified in a lawsuit filed against his former party that “whack-a-do, right-wing crazies” wanted to suppress the black vote through Voter ID and tactics like current state Gov. Rick Scott’s efforts to purge voter rolls.

Jim Greer, stated “I sat in on many meetings where it was discussed how to make sure what happened in 2008, when Obama brought out the college-aged voters, the minority voters, never happened again”.

Florida Republicans took voter suppression to brazen extremes. After the 2010 election, Republican Gov. Rick Scott instructed Secretary of State Ken Browning to compile a massive database of alleged “non-citizen” voters.  This resulted in a 91-year-old World War II veteran who won a Bronze star being told by the state of Florida to prove he is a citizen or be removed from voter roll.

POLITICAL PARTIES NEED TO BE ABOLISHED

The two Party System has divided this country and caused Americans to hate each other.  It has polarized American citizens and created a “Us against Them” environment.  Eliminating the two party system would solve most of the problems which is destroying this country and Democracy such as Gerrymandering and Voter Suppression.  With no political parties, elected representatives from local to national positions would truly represent their constituents and encourage those in elected office to do what’s best for this country instead of fighting to maintain power.
